Owner and director Matt Hale served his time with Rover, spending seven years there before moving to Volkswagen for five years. He later worked across the motor trade, gaining experience of the main-dealer world and, just as importantly, learning how he wanted to do things differently.

Fourteen years ago, around the time his first child was born, Matt took over Walkers Garage. The business and premises needed serious investment and a new lease of life, and it was Matt's first experience of running a company. The opportunity was made possible with the backing of his father-in-law, owner of Hydraclean, another family-run business.

Since then, Walkers has been steadily transformed through investment in the premises, equipment and team, while building its reputation through repeat customers, recommendations and straightforward advice.

Matt is particularly proud of what the team has built. School was never his strongest suit, but years in the trade, hard work and the support of family helped turn a run-down garage into an established independent business serving the local community.
